The peloton descends Healy Pass. Seven categorized climbs reduced the field to 25 riders on Stage 4. Tito won the only Cat 1 KOM and moves to 3rd in KOM. Curtis crashed at a difficult place to swap bikes and get back in, but finished inside time cut. Kevin has built Curtis a new bike and he will start Stage 5. Jacob was 4th on the stage and Ben remains 5th in GC with four stages remaining. Glengariff, Stage 4’s finish, was the most southern point of the 2018 route.

Stage 5 saw Taylor Shelden in a move that was caught just outside Mitchelstown and Jacob Rathe take a solo flyer that had 10 seconds’ advantage in the final kilometers. Alas, Rathe was caught inside of 100 meters to go. Ulises Castillo finished 9th on the day and Ben Wolfe retains 5th in GC.

The Redlands Classic is a cornerstone of stage racing in North America. In its 34th year, Redlands is known for an extremely varied and dynamic parcours, and equally for traditional ‘host housing’ where the teams stay with local families and for the days of school visits before the race.

The Team’s Rene Corella and Ulises Castillo raced The Sea Otter Classic in Monterey in April. The stage race there is great, with a couple of days on the Laguna Seca race track with its infamous “corkscrew” descending turn, but the event is also a huge trade and consumer show. New products are launched, tech questions are addressed, deals are made, and old friends are reunited. Here is a gallery of the pair’s Monterey adventures.

The Team welcome new partner EB Cycling Law for 2018.
EB Cycling Law is the cycling law practice of nationally recognized and award-winning personal injury law firm Estey & Bomberger, headquartered in San Diego, California.
Estey & Bomberger partner Michael Bomberger, who heads the EB Cycling Law practice, is an avid cyclist that has been involved in the sport competitively and recreationally for the past 25 years. His practice has focused for two decades on helping cyclists that have been injured while riding. Bomberger has also been actively engaged in the Rider Safety Visibility initiative, which seeks to educate the public and increase the practice of safety and visibility for all cyclists.
“It is a privilege to work with the leadership at Jelly Belly Cycling, the professional cyclists of the team, and those that support the team,” said Bomberger. “We are honored to be part of this organization because they go the extra mile to perform, while sharing our values and goals of making cycling safer for all bicyclists; children, recreational riders, commuters, and competitive cyclists alike.”
Danny Van Haute, team owner and director said, “Michael and his firm bring a great deal of opportunity to Jelly Belly Cycling through their unwavering support of our team and the principles of rider safety visibility. All members of the Jelly Belly Cycling team (staff included) are required to use front and rear lighting during training and recreational rides. We are hopeful that our mandatory visibility/lighting program, with lights provided by CatEye, will be adopted by other riders and teams and eventually become as ubiquitous as helmets in the sport.”
